Here's a sample of some of the beautiful trout I've had the opportunity to paint. I enjoy painting the large range of different shapes, sizes and colours of this unique species. All artworks are painted in pastel on acid free board and the portraits are life size.

Brown Trout 15 pounds 9 ounces
Great Lake, Tasmania

This New Zealand Rainbow has been painted on the stones beside the river. In this piece each stone has been individually painted to enhance the fish and its beautiful spawning colours.

Rainbow Trout 8 pounds 8 ounces
Tongariro River, New Zealand

The reason for these two paintings was to capture the feeling an angler feels when seeing this.
You have a sense of being unnoticed and at any moment the trout may see you and disappear like a bullet

"In the Shallows"
(Brown Trout)

Rainbow Trout 8 pounds 1 ounce

This Brown Trout has been painted on the grass beside the river. Local settings taken from the photo of a catch help to enhance the memory of the occasion.

Trout with this colouring are relatively common in the alpine lakes of Tasmania. It is sometimes due to the yellow sand on the bottom of the lakes which these fish inhabit.

Brown Trout 6 pounds 5 ounces
Western Lakes, Tasmania

Atlantic Salmon 7 pounds 9 ounces

I wanted to portray the feeling of thousands of fish all migrating back to their place of birth. I feel this painting captures the urgency of the migration.
